DVT is also known as Deep Vein Thrombosis and usually attacking on the legs of the people. This condition happen because the blood clot (Thrombus) on the 1 or more veins within the lower extremities.

Actually this disease is dangerous if not treated properly because it can cause very painful in your legs and sometimes makes clot without symptoms.

Common Causes of Deep Vein Thrombosis:

1. If you sit down in one position for long time. This can occur if you do traveling by your car, plane or train.

2. Medical history that makes affecting the ways of your blood clots.
Why is Deep Vein Thrombosis called dangerous?
- DVT has risk if blood clot develops in vein to break free of the vein and influences to your lungs. It becomes Pulmonary Embolism if the blood clots lodged within your lungs.

There are some Symptoms of DVT:

- Pain on the legs and radiated up to ankle and foot regions.
- Muscle cramping that begins from calf.
- Inflammation process that affected for your legs.
- On your skin any redness especially around affected regions.
- Swelling and fluid collection (edema) in area of foot or ankle.
- If the blood clots are lodged in your arm or neck, these can make the pain also.

Pulmonary Embolism has some symptoms such as:

- Coughing if you take a deep breath and sometimes make you chest pain.
- Any blood if you cough.
- Short of breath (SOB) with unclear causes.
- You feel fainting or dizzy.
- A sense of anxiety.

Most risks factors of DVT

- Developing of Deep Vein Thrombosis by inherited blood clot disorder.
- Bed rest for long time like in the Hospital can lead the blood circulation problems and finally make blood clot formation.
- Blood clot is also happen due to the operation/surgery or injury in the past because of slow flow of your blood.
- General Anesthetic due to operation can dilate of your vein and enhance of blood clots.
- The other is pregnancy that pressing of veins in the leg or pelvic regions.
- Stop smoking! Because it can affect a real blood circulation problems and eventually to influence the blood clots.
- Do not sitting for long time with the same position. Your leg muscle doesn’t contract well, so it’s not good for your blood flow.
- Specific drug (Oral Contraceptives) for birth control sometimes can cause of blood clots, please consult with your Specialist before using it.

How to know about Deep Vein Thrombosis?

- The first of all is of course physical examination to check the symptoms like the swelling, color of skin, painful, tenderness an so on.
- Color Doppler Ultrasound of Legs is one of the best diagnostic tool.
- CT-Scan or MRI for the suspected area.
- Blood Test to check the increase level of Clot-Dissolving that mentioned as D-Dimer Test.
- Venography that injected to your large vein and the x-ray can see the process thoroughly.

Complication of your DVT can threaten your life so you need medical emergency. It’s better to call or consult your family Doctor for follow-up treatment or medical evacuation to the Hospital or Clinics.

Purpose of Treatment:

Treatment of Deep Vein Thrombosis is to stop the blood clot to be getting larger and also to prevent the breaking loose of that clot which causing a pulmonary embolism. The other purpose is to avoid the re-occurring of your DVT.
