Info and Functions of CT-Scan
CT-Scan is one of the high technology diagnostic tools in the medical center which takes the images from cross-sectional of the patient’s body. This tool is the combination between using x-ray radiation exposure and computer technology to produce the sliced images of the body from lower abdomen up to head region.
In the past we call it “Computed Tomography”. It was discovered by 2 British engineers Sir Godfrey Hounsfield and Dr. Alan Cormack and then developed by Italian Radiologist in 1900s with the goal to capture the images from the body in cross-sectional projections on the film. This application then developed more sophisticated in 1970s.
Nowadays, CT-Scan has changed to be 5th Generation. The images also have high quality and high resolution as effective diagnostic equipment and try to replace the traditional and simple x-ray examination.
The advantages of CT-Scan as follows:
- Generate an internal structure of the body with 3-dimentional images.
- It can differentiate between fat, bone and fluid in the body.
- It’s effective for diagnosis of tumors, cancers until small fractures.
- Can make screening for any variety of conditions with minimal radiation exposure.
The objects of CT-Scan Diagnosis including:
- Detecting lung diseases or abnormalities like pneumonia, fibrosis, lung cancer, pulmonary embolism, pulmonary arteries and so on.
- Diagnose some diseases of abdomen and pelvic areas such as bowel obstruction, aortic aneurysm, osteoporosis, diverticulitis, abdominal cancer or colon, pancreatitis, pancreas diseases/ abdominal problems and so on.
- Identify of fractures and dislocations for your arms and legs especially on the joints.
- Brain identification is also to be the object of diagnosis by CT-Scan. This tool is fast and effective to diagnose the bleeding that occurs by brain tumors and cancers.
- Detecting the injury on the abdominal organs within the spleen, kidneys and spines.
- Dental implants, neck and sinuses objects can be shown well also.
- Identify blood vessel and soft tissue abnormalities like the disease of Deep Vein Thrombosis.
To make more quickly of diagnosis result, many Doctors will see from monitor and then make direct interpretation because of speedy patient’s requested or for better medical service.
The price of CT-Scan is divided 2 types. Using contrast media which injected in the patient’s body is more expensive than without it. Anesthetist is needed to accompany patient during examination to avoid allergic risk. Skin test is usually done in early procedure to check any allergic complications or not to the patients.
MRI and CT-Scan are both diagnostic tools which’s very useful for helping Doctors because they are non-invasive and safe procedure if using without contrast media.
